I was born in Amarillo, Texas, and raised in Happy, Texas.  My father Clovis was a farmer, and my mother Royce was a housewife who had a degree in English and was a trained musician.

My father taught me the virtues of hard work, integrity, eternal optimism, and respect for all.  My mother helped me realize there is a big wide world out there.

My parents’ support enabled me to reach for the stars.

My younger brother Steve grew up in the same household and took a different path in life.  I’m very proud of him.

I have a B.A. in chemistry from Rice University and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Michigan State University.  My dissertation title was “Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Studies of Some Organometallic Molecules.”

I worked for three chemical companies, always in R&D and technology, then one consulting company.  Ultimately, I formed my own consulting company and undertook something completely different.  I still do a little consulting from time to time.

I’ll write about things that interest me at this stage of my life and explore how I got interested in them.  My specific interests are science fiction in general, particularly that written in the fifties up through the nineties, the works of Philip K. Dick, and scientific topics, primarily quantum mechanics and thermodynamics.

I hope readers will occasionally respond so we can “converse” about the topics.  I stress I have absolutely no interest in discussing politics in this blog.

The title, “Kipple & Entropy,” combines my regard for the literary oeuvre of Philip K. Dick and thermodynamics.
